MoonTale Privacy Policy
MoonTale is a parent-controlled bedtime story app. This Privacy Policy explains what information MoonTale collects, how we use it, and the choices available to parents and guardians.
MoonTale is intended to be used by parents or guardians. Children should use MoonTale only with permission and supervision from a parent or guardian.
1. Information We Collect
Depending on how you use MoonTale, we may collect or process the following information:
- Account information: When you sign in with Apple, we may receive an Apple account identifier, email address, and display name if Apple provides them.
- Child profile information: Parents may create child profiles with information such as a nickname, age group, and pronoun.
- Story settings: We process settings selected by the parent, such as theme, role, bedtime goal, language, story length, and voice option.
- Generated story records: We may store story titles, summaries, story text templates, generated story metadata, and audio-related records so stories can be saved and replayed.
- Purchase and subscription records: We process App Store transaction identifiers, subscription status, product identifiers, point grants, and point balance records.
- Technical information: We may process request logs, rate limit data, session records, security information, and diagnostic information needed to run and protect the service.
2. Local Data on Your Device
MoonTale may store child profiles, saved stories, audio files, playback position, and app settings on your device. You can delete local child profiles and saved stories from the app settings.
3. Cloud AI and Voice Generation
If cloud AI and voice generation are enabled and the parent or guardian agrees in the app, MoonTale sends selected story details to Xiaomi MiMo API, a third-party AI service, to create story text and cloud voice audio.
The data sent to Xiaomi MiMo API may include the child's nickname, age range, pronoun, selected story role, theme, bedtime goal, language, requested duration, selected voice, and the generated story text. The generated story text may include the child's nickname. MoonTale sends this data only to generate the story and audio requested by the parent or guardian.
You can turn cloud AI and voice generation off in Settings. Cloud generation requires an account and available story points.
4. How We Use Information
We use information to:
- Create personalized bedtime stories selected by the parent.
- Generate cloud voice audio for stories.
- Save stories, playback progress, account status, and point balances.
- Process subscriptions and point purchases through Apple's App Store systems.
- Protect the service from abuse, fraud, excessive requests, and unauthorized access.
- Provide support and respond to user requests.
- Improve reliability, safety, and app functionality.
5. Children and Parental Control
MoonTale does not require children to create accounts. Child profile information is provided and managed by a parent or guardian. Parents are responsible for choosing what information to enter and for supervising a child's use of the app.
If you believe a child provided personal information without parental permission, please contact us so we can review and delete the information where appropriate.
6. Sharing Information
We do not sell personal information. We may share or process information with service providers only as needed to operate MoonTale, including:
- Cloud hosting and database providers.
- Xiaomi MiMo API for AI story generation and cloud voice audio generation. We require service providers that process information for MoonTale to provide the same or equal protection for personal data.
- Apple services for Sign in with Apple, App Store purchases, and subscription status.
- Security, fraud prevention, and technical infrastructure providers.
We may also disclose information if required by law, to protect our rights, or to protect users and the service.
7. Purchases and Subscriptions
Purchases, subscriptions, cancellations, and refunds are handled by Apple through the App Store. MoonTale receives transaction information needed to grant story points, verify subscription status, and prevent purchase abuse.
8. Data Retention
We keep information only as long as needed to provide MoonTale, maintain account and purchase records, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and protect the service. Local data can be deleted from the app. Server-side account or cloud story records may require a support request.
9. Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect information. No internet service can be guaranteed to be completely secure, but we work to protect accounts, sessions, story records, and purchase records from unauthorized access.
10. Your Choices
- You can choose whether to use cloud AI and voice generation.
- You can delete local child profiles and saved stories in the app.
- You can manage subscriptions and refunds through Apple.
- You can contact us to request access, correction, or deletion of account-related information.
11. International Users
MoonTale may process information in countries other than where you live. By using MoonTale, you understand that information may be transferred and processed where our service providers operate.
12. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will update the effective date and may provide additional notice in the app or on this page.
